thanksgiving!!!
hey all sorry its way late but here's the picture story of my fam's thanksgiving in New York
we decided to do a real home cooked thanksgiving this year with my sisters housemates, I myself was sceptic, thinking that when it came to cooking buying it in a fancy NY store would taste the same. Wrong! Devon did the turkey it was amazing!
Devon and Zak live in Manhattan in the menno house which is set up for people who need to live in the city but can't afford it due to using their money for a higher purpose. for example being a nursing student :-) some of the other people who live their work at the U.N. or other Not For Profits. its a pretty cool house other than the fact that it leans to one side, and their house mates are all really welcoming check out mennohouse.org for more info( they rent out rooms for way cheep, right in the middle of the city!)

Ice skating at central park!! ( encores followed by shake shack , the amazing-ness!)

we also visited the Brooklyn botanical gardens where they had a toy train show with all the buildings made from natural materials here's the now defunct Yankee stadium and Rockefeller center.

I didn't intend this blog to be all about cakes but since were on the subject...

it all started with angel food cup cakes, then.. it grew!

so here is the original idea- courtesy of Betty Crocker

my witches ended up looking more like incontinent pirates but it was fun to do.

there supposed to be ghosts, this ones my fave , with a Mohawk ,\../

I think they look better with out noses, don't you?

wee baby ghosts

Kitty's and incontinent pirates

p.s. need a Christmas idea?
maybe a decorating organizer?
just a thought:-)

fun with sugar
mmmmk more sugar decorations! this time we did things a little different, using mostly royal icing which is made from egg whites and sugar instead of Crisco and sugar which makes them a lot easier to work with. however if they come in to contact with any oil at all ( like the icing we were using) they disintegrate. so its a little more complicated. the birds are made from color flow icing which pours like a liquid but dries hard and shiny making great decorations :-)
( eventually I'll remember to make a few bigger ones so I can take better pictures!)

I used to love flowers

(click on the picture to see it in better detail)
roses, mums and some squiggles Oh My!

I am getting slightly better (though not with the whole picture taking thing, sorry) but I really need to work on the coloring and not drooping my best work on the floor.
